Who does this page connect me with?
Sacramento Mechanic Line is not affiliated with or endorsed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Mercedes-Benz USA or any Mercedes-Benz dealer. Mercedes-Benz is a trademark of its owner. Callers talk with independent local mechanics who work on Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and you agree on the price and the work directly with the shop.
What does Mercedes-Benz repair cost?
RepairPal's data, which covers model years 2010 to 2019 and includes scheduled maintenance, puts the average annual repair cost for a Mercedes-Benz at $908, compared with $652 across all models. Mercedes-Benz vehicles average 0.7 shop visits a year, and RepairPal says 13% of repairs are severe. The brand rates 3.0 out of 5, 27th of 32 brands. These are national averages that vary by model and age, and they aren't Sacramento prices.
Because parts and labor can run high on a luxury brand, get the estimate in writing, with each part identified as new, used, rebuilt or reconditioned as California requires, and ask for a second opinion on a large repair.
What are Mercedes-Benz Service A and Service B?
Mercedes-Benz USA schedules maintenance in two alternating services. Service A, at about 10,000 miles or one year and then roughly every 20,000 miles or two years, includes an oil and filter change, fluid level checks, a tire inflation check, a brake component inspection and a reset of the maintenance counter. Service B, about 20,000 miles or a year after the previous service and then roughly every 20,000 miles or two years, adds a cabin dust and combination filter replacement and a brake fluid exchange.
These are Mercedes-Benz's published intervals. Your car's maintenance display and owner's manual control the schedule for your model, and your own driving conditions may call for sooner service. Ask your mechanic which service applies and what is included.
What does the Mercedes-Benz warranty cover?
Mercedes-Benz USA's basic warranty is four years or 50,000 miles for light-duty vehicles, whichever comes first. Its 2025 warranty booklet also says that during the emissions coverage period, if the vehicle fails a Smog Check inspection, Mercedes-Benz USA makes the repairs needed to pass. For a repair the warranty may cover, check with an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership before paying for work elsewhere.
The FTC says independent maintenance and repairs don't void a new-car warranty, and the manufacturer must show an improper repair or defective part caused the damage before denying a claim. Keep records of all service, including who did the work.
Is there a recall on my Mercedes-Benz?
Check your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls. Recall repairs are free at manufacturer dealerships. In one recent example, NHTSA's recall 26V-281 covers 144,049 certain 2024 to 2026 AMG GT, C-Class, E-Class, SL, CLE and GLC vehicles, where the infotainment control unit may reset while driving and blank the instrument panel display, hiding the speedometer and warning lights. Dealers update the software at no charge.
Whether your car is included depends on the VIN, so look it up instead of guessing.
What should I ask a Mercedes-Benz repair shop?
Consumer Reports says garages focused on your brand are more likely to have the latest training and equipment, and recommends asking if a shop has experience with your model. Ask:
- Which Mercedes-Benz models and engines do you work on most?
- Is the part new, rebuilt, used or aftermarket, and is it listed on the estimate?
- What is the warranty on parts and labor, in months and miles?
- If my car may be under warranty or recall, should I start at a Mercedes-Benz dealer?
How do I check a Mercedes-Benz mechanic's license?
California requires every auto repair business to be registered with BAR. Look up the shop in the DCA license search for its license status and any discipline, or use BAR's Auto Shop Locator by city or ZIP code. The registration number must be on your invoice, and the shop must give you a written estimate before starting work.
